The new EZ Collapsible Softboxes are proving to be extremely popular, especially with our discounted introductory price. While designed for use with speedlites, they can be used with certain studio strobes or monolites.

While this may not work with every studio strobe on the market, it should work with a good percentage of them. Shown here is the Westcott Strobelite Plus which works extremely well. The key is getting the strobe mounted to the softbox’s L-bracket. Since I have been asked a ton of times if this will work, I will show you how I did it just with a couple of parts laying around the studio.

All I did was to take a standard double-side stud and put it into the back of the L-bracket. To secure it, I took the insert that came with a swivel mount and screwed it onto the threads underneath the L-bracket. If you have the appropriate nut or wingnut, that would work equally well.

If I wanted to use the monolite’s modeling light, I would have to put the mounting hardware together first and put the softbox cover on last as I couldn’t tilt the studio strobe into position with the modeling light attached.

So with just two very common parts from the parts bin I was able to use the new EZ Softboxes with my studio strobes. This should work with most smaller strobes that do not have a built-in reflector on the front, so it should work pretty good with Alien Bees lights.

If you haven’t taken a look at the new softboxes, take a look, they are some of the coolest photography gadgets I have seen in a long time.

Thanks Kerry. Had someone asking about this the day before you posted it. We sell the double-side stud (light stand adapter) and I just tried it with the BB-200 strobe. It fits, but doesn’t fill the softbox ring completely as it’s smaller than the Wescott strobe pictured.

I think the 32″ version will be perfect for the Westcott strobe. BTW, Kerry i need some clarification about the Westcott’s Strobelite. Are they compatible with PCB’s Vagabond Mini Lithium?
